Enric Llurda is Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Dept. of English and Linguistics of the Universitat de Lleida. He teaches courses on applied linguistics, global English, intercultural communication and research methods. He has edited the book Non-native language teachers: Perceptions, challenges and contributions to the profession (Springer, 2005) which has received wide international attention and has been translated into Arabic (King Saud University, 2012). He has additionally co-authored two books in Spanish: La conciencia lingüística en la enseñanza de lenguas (2007) on the promotion of language awareness in language education; and Plurilingüismo e interculturalidad en la escuela: Reflexiones y propuestas didácticas (2010) on the development of multilingual and intercultural competence in secondary education. Enric Llurda has done research on bilingualism, language attitudes, language awareness and language teaching, with a strong emphasis on non-native teachers in TESOL and English as a Lingua Franca. Some of the research projects he has been involved in deal with: a) the impact of university student mobility programmes on the development of English proficiency, intercultural competence and identity; b) a critical analysis of native speaker bias in the media coverage of English language teaching programmes in Latin America; c) a study of the implementation of a plurilingual approach in teaching English as a lingua franca at university; d) the development of disciplinary literacies at university; and e) the development of language ideologies and ELF-awareness among pre-service English teachers (currently in progress).
